ABOUT MIKE

For me photography has been an interesting journey.

I started by shooting fashion in London, and had just cracked my first shot in Vogue magazine when I had an offer in Johannesburg I simply could not refuse. I continued to shoot fashion in Johannesburg for many years.

Not only did the irresistible urge to stay in SA take hold, but I also started to become interested in other fields of photography ie shooting cars, fast food and then eventually beer. Shooting beer made me realise I had a fascination for bottles, which eventually led to the need to be in Cape Town, especially if one really wanted to get serious about bottles. In 2002 an opportunity came up which enabled me to relocate to Cape Town, which for me, was where I had always wanted to be.

I am very fortunate to be kept very busy shooting beverage related work, whether it is just a stunning bottle shoot or a really complicated liquid shoot, which I get a lot of requests for. In any year I will have shot every sort of beverage you can think of, whether it’s beer, wine, brandy, cider, vodka etc………….

I am also fortunate that I still get to shoot the occasional food shoot, and I have a couple of jewellery accounts that require the fine attention to detail that bottles require.

It is even more gratifying for me that people are prepared to come from all over to shoot with me, and also to see my work displayed not just everywhere here, but also when I travel overseas.
My work has become a personal quest to ‘get it right’ when a client has a really challenging concept to be executed, for me getting it right equals a happy client.
